Tommy Ton x American Express: NYFW Street Seen

New York Fashion Week is a go - which means - prime time for bloggers all over the world.
As we look through the frames of impeccable style while scavenging our favourite blogs, I assure you that more than once you have seen something and thought - "I NEED THAT." - Then comes the search, hours of scouring Net-a-porter, trying random key words into Google, hopelessness gradually dawning on you. Well. Do I have news for you.

Tommy Ton and AmEx have collaborated on Style.com to provide photos of off runway/street style fashion (from the Spring/Summer 2012 shows of course), and simple links to shop each look.

Citizen Review: Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution

Ok, so I am sure many of you are not foreign to the hunt for the perfect cleanser - foamy, not foamy, removes all makeup, smells good, gentle, clears skin, makes washing your face feel like you are in an Olay commercial, plays music...... ah, ok. When I find that, I will let you all know, but in the mean time I was introduced to this product at a makeup counter about 2 months ago and satisfies quite a number of points on my "perfect makeup remover list".

Used backstage for countless shows each season, makeup artists.... and I,  have fallen in love with it.

Bioderma Sensibio H20 can be used all over the face and eyes for makeup removal and light cleansing. It is gentlefree of harmful ingredients, leaves a light, fresh felling, and is extremely effective. It also does not strip the skin. With a few saturated cotton pads, all makeup is off - and there is no need to rinse! (Perfect for removing makeup quickly on late nights)

Often I just use this by itself, but if I am removing extremely heavy makeup, I will use it with La Roche-Posay Physiological Cleansing Gel (which I am also a huge fan of).

This makeup remover is water based and is a micelle solution - A solution made up of special spherical particles which, when applied with slight pressure, open up and "pick up" anything which is not water from the skin - without stripping nutrients.

I absolutely love this product and hope it works out just the same for you!

Beauty Cheat Sheet: Antioxidants

No matter where you are, when talking about skincare and general health we are always told about antioxidants. Beauty products and companies rave about antioxidant powers as well as effects of free radicals and other harmful oxidants. I for one was previously unsure about all of these things, so here is a simple Antioxidant Cheat Sheet.

Antioxidant Molecule capable of preventing the oxidation of other molecules. They protect your cells from the effects of free radicals.

     ex. Beta-carotene, Lycopene, Vitamins A, C, E

Free Radical: Molecules produced when your body breaks down food, or by environmental exposures. Free radicals can damage cells, and may play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases.

     ex. Tobacco smoke, radiation

Many antioxidants work from within the body such as the ones found in food or supplements.

Antioxidant rich foods:
  • Tomatos
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Berries (All varieties, blackberries, acai etc.)
  • Pomegranate
  • Teas (particularly GREEN)
  • Red grapes & wine (red)
  • CHOCOLATE! (dark)
  • Oranges and Grapefruit
  • Whole Grains
  • Almonds
  • Fish & vegetable oil
  • Turnip greens

Antioxidants such as Vitamin C and E are topical antioxidants - this means they must be placed on the skin in order to take effect. Topical antioxidants are important because they not only directly block the effects of free radicals immediately, but also absorb into the skin to nourish it, repair cells, and inhibit oxidizing agents.

It is important to use a light antioxidant serum at night and during the day. These serums help fight free radicals in turn preventing signs of aging such as wrinkles and skin damage.

There are many antioxidant serums on the market but a good example is the JUICE Beuty Antioxidant Serum (available online at Sephora.com)

This serum helps to prevent aging and also helps to firm and smooth fine lines. Another plus is that it is 100% organic and free of harmful chemicals.

I really hope this helped!
